Girl’s pleas for help ignored
Vienna Natascha Kampusch, 18, who was kidnapped eight years ago and held in an underground cell, will describe on Austrian television how she appealed for help during occasional outings with her captor, Wolfgang Priklopil.
Her interviewer, Christoph Feurstein, said: “She made eye contact with people time and again and wanted to signal them, ‘Please help me!’ And nobody reacted.”

Smugglers ‘to die’
Canberra The Government is investigating a report that four Australians jailed in Indonesia for drug smuggling have been given death sentences. The Supreme Court is said to have imposed the new sentences at an appeal hearing. Six of nine Australians caught trying to smuggle heroin from Bali last year are to be executed. (AP)
Terror charges
Odense Seven men will appear in court in Denmark on preliminary terrorism charges. Police said that the group had acquired material to build explosives and were planning an attack. Nine men, thought to be Danish citizens aged between 18 and 33, were arrested. Two were released without charge. (AP)

Healed with a kiss
Amsterdam A French mastiff that was unconscious and hanging by its lead made a full recovery after being given the kiss of life. The pet dog had jumped from a balcony in Zevenaar in the Netherlands and was cut down by neighbours and passers by. It was taken to a vet by a passing ambulance. (AP)
