Trial adjourned
Istanbul: The start of the trial of five Turkish journalists charged with insulting the country’s courts was adjourned yesterday after non-participating nationalist lawyers shouted at the judge and tussled with police. The trial is one of a series of cases that are being regarded as tests of Turkey’s preparedness for EU membership. (AP)
Briton killed
A British businesswoman died in a skiing accident in the French Alps. Tina Yearsley, from Romsey, Hampshire, was killed while entertaining her company’s clients in the resort of Flaine. Reports suggest that Ms Yearsley, a mother of two, was involved in an incident with a snowmobile. A colleague, Carl Jackson, was injured, though not seriously.

Kathmandu: Nepalese troops have been ordered to shoot anyone who tries to disrupt today’s municipal elections. Voting is due in cities and towns across the Himalayan kingdom, although Maoist rebels have threatened to disrupt the ballot with violence, and the main political parties have called for a boycott.
