Oil blast kills 50
Lagos: Up to 50 people died when an oil pipeline exploded near Lagos, Nigeria’s largest city, as thieves tried to siphon oil from it, police said. At least 30 charred bodies of victims have been recovered and more still are in the swamps and waterways surrounding the site of the explosion. (AP)
Madonna arrests
Tel Aviv: Israeli police detained two of the pop star Madonna’s bodyguards yesterday after they assaulted photographers waiting for the singer outside her hotel.
The pop diva has been in Israel since Wednesday with 2,000 other students of Kabbalah, the Jewish mystical offshoot. (AP)
