Tashkent Six people were sentenced to prison terms of up to ten years in Uzbekistan for selling dozens of newborn babies. A court considered 70 cases, in which the infants were sold for about £1,800 each, including four where the babies were taken out of the country, according to a pro-government website. (AFP)

Mexico City A 20-year-old police chief in a Mexican border town that has been caught in a drugs war has been fired for apparently abandoning her post after receiving death threats. Marisol Valles Garcia had permission to go to the US last week but failed to return to Praxedis Guerrero, a statement from the city said. (AP)
