“This room is rather historic,” he says, “because the actual bid for the West Coast line was done here.”
It has a long meeting table and a smaller desk in the corner under a window, which looks out over the rooftops at the back of the station. Some 50 box files are stacked on shelves along one wall. Another wall carries a whiteboard, scrawled with memos.
A picture of a steam train in Edinburgh and an Intercity poster decorate a third wall. Two models of Virgin’s Pendolino tilting train sit on the windowsill.
“The best thing about the room is its location, 30 seconds from the concourse,” says Green.
“About 95% of our passengers go through Euston, and all the staff come through here. I can get to anyone.”
