Word on the street

We’ve spent the past month watching the runway — but there’s just as much to learn from the show-goers. Pandora Sykes reveals the insider buys and styling tips to copy

The Gucci belt
As Gucci is the label of the moment, its metallic loafers, pussy-bow blouses and swishy skirts are everywhere. But the niftiest, and cheapest, way to get into the brand? The interlocking-G belt, say the fashion editors. It’s still an investment, but it will be the focal point of any outfit. Try it minimal with black jeans, or belt a Nordic knit over Vetements jeans (another favourite street-style item), as seen on the Norwegian fashion blogger Hedvig Opshaug. The new It bag
Despite the eye-watering price, the Loewe Puzzle bag has been on the arm of every editor and blogger in recent weeks. If there is one bag worth spending a month’s salary on, this is it. Squashy, light and deceptively roomy, this JW Anderson design (he is the creative director of the Spanish luxury brand) comes in masses of colours and there is a rubber version, too. Of course, if you can’t find what you want in the women’s section, do as Susie Bubble, pictured, does and head for the men’s. Pink Puzzle bag, £1,525, Loewe

The Zara pyjama suit
After the third white pyjama suit with smart black piping and ankle-skimming trousers slunk past us on the streets of London, we thought we had better find out who made this no doubt expensive outfit. Oh, what joy! For it is Zara, aka the Céline of the high street. Keep it minimal with black loafers and a bun, or pop a brightly coloured poloneck underneath, as I am wont to do. The Topshop Unique floral blazer
There’s a reason the SS16 collection has sold at the speed of light, with Jourdan Dunn and Suki Waterhouse and Sofia Sanchez de Betak, pictured, all wearing Unique florals for its recent show in London. Join the gang with the must-buy blazer, £275, Topshop Unique. For a cheaper hit, try this one. £50, Damart

The fishnet sock
We’re all about the quick wins, and this is surely the quickest of all. Pop on a pair of fishnet ankle socks (or fishnet tights, for extra warmth) under your jeans, for a sassy flash of ankle. ASOS and Pamela Mann both have pairs for £3.

The Weekday kick flares
I’m rarely out of my stretchy Dorothy Perkins kicky flares — a steal at £20 — and now there is a new pair on the block for me to covet. The Sneeze trousers by the Scandinavian high-street brand Weekday, as seen on the Danish blogger Fiona, have a stretchy waistband and a pleasing flare to complement your pointed boots or heels perfectly. Pair with your best vintage coat and oversized sunnies and, quite frankly, you’re golden. Kick flares, £35; weekday.com

The shearling coat
From bloggers such as Leandra Medine to the stylist Pernille Teisbaek the one coat the fashion massive were wearing for a sub-zero New York Fashion Week was the Saks Potts Febbe coat, which comes in three different colours. The young Danish brand is an obsession for those in the know (I’m currently living in its Bibi coat). The Febbe isn’t cheap, but you’d pay a similar price for the same coat at the upper end of the high street. Febbe coat, £899, Saks Potts

The silver boot
I spotted three women, including Donna Wallace of Elle, pictured, in Camilla Elphick Silver Lining boots during London Fashion Week. The slim fit and gold Bowie-esque arrow running down the heel, make them an instant hit. Sadly, they’re part of last season’s collection, but Office does an ace pair. Silver boots, £70, Office
