Sir, Catherine Hakim makes some valid points in her Thunderer article (“Demanding jobs and part-time workers don’t go together”, Mar 16), but categorises all women who want to work part-time as needing to leave the office totally behind them when they walk out of the door. This need not be the case at all. Modern technology allows a conscientious, dedicated employee to enjoy the benefits of part-time managerial and professional roles, while being available for clients or colleagues if urgent matters arise between her official working days.
Employers benefit from paying a part-time salary, but knowing that the job is being covered, while the employee does not have to be in the office every day, enjoys flexible working and has a fulfilling job — a win-win situation for all.
