Witnessing wills

More than one witness is needed for a valid will

Sir, Sir Clement Freud should be told that if his new will has only been witnessed by “Portuguese Maria” then it will not be valid, as two or more witnesses are legally required under the Wills Act 1837 (comment, Feb 2). An invalid will means that his children will benefit from his money after all.
