Who’s in charge: McClaren or Venables?

Steve McClaren took his first training session as the new England coach on Monday, but Terry Venables, his assistant, was never far behind him. In fact, Venables was given free rein to put across his own ideas as the former Middlesbrough manager stood back.

So, who is in charge of the new England regime? Did the FA really want Venables back as the main man but feel uneasy due to his past? Is McClaren a big enough personality to deal with all the players’ egos or will they respond more to Venables? Will we see Venables take more of a role when facing the media to allow McClaren to get on with coaching?
