Colin Jackson, 44, the hurdler, is one of Britain’s greatest athletes, with more gold medals than he has digits. He is the ambassador for Tesco Great School Run: greatschoolrun.org

Breakfast

At half eight I had a strawberry yoghurt, a cup of tea and a shot of espresso. Breakfast is always simple, it’s a habit of sport. When I was training, I’d usually not eat again until 6 because there was no time. As an athlete I struggled with my love of refined sugar. But either you want to keep your waistline or you don’t, it’s as simple as that.

Lunch

At two o’ clock I had to have — this sounds really terrible but it’s true — Nando’s. A peri peri half chicken, medium hot with corn on the cob and coleslaw. I love chicken. Nando’s just seem to cook it the right way, and the restaurant is everywhere. I’ve just come off the Strictly Come Dancing tour, and myself, Ricky Whittle and James Jordan ate Nando’s virtually every lunchtime.

Dinner

I met friends in Surbiton, where I live, and had a Spanish omelette with bacon, cheese and mushrooms, and a mocha with skimmed milk. You’ve gotta save the calories somewhere! Back home I had winegums and Baileys with ice. I go to the gym every day. It’s my time for thinking; it gives me energy and focus.
