The producer behind Farmlay eggs and a supplier to Wm Morrison, Aldi and Spar in Scotland has lifted profits by 60 per cent.

Aberdeen & Northern Eggs, which is run by Robert and Ethel Chapman and their son Iain, lifted pre-tax profts from £1.5 million to more than £2.4 million for the year to the end of May, according to accounts filed at Companies House.

Turnover at the business, which produces around half of its eggs on the family farm in Strichen, Aberdeenshire edged up by 1.6 per cent from £15.87 million to £16.12 million . The company now holds nearly 2,000 acres.
