What are you wearing?

This week we talk to a 14-year-old who is inspired by her mum and likes to mix styles between rock chick and feminine florals

My school, St Paul’s, is a girls’ school and it’s quite academic, so we aren’t really competitive about clothes. I’m lazy about what I wear during the week, but at the weekend I make a real effort and I’m proud of the outfits I put together.

I dress for myself and maybe a bit for my mum. She is my biggest inspiration as she is so fashion-forward. I prefer to shop with her, because she will always be blunt and tell me if something doesn’t suit me.

Even though I do get weekly pocket money, I have learnt the tricks to get Mum to get me something, but even she thinks I have too many clothes now. It’s really boring to have just one style, so I prefer to mix it up.

One day I’ll be a rock chick in black with studs, the next I’ll be more feminine in florals. Even though I shop on the high street, I try to pick out the pieces that look more expensive and could pass for designer.

This leather gilet, from H&M, is great for toughening up the sheer blouse, from Topshop. The Marc Jacobs bag was a Christmas gift — I love it so much I use it nearly every weekend.

My mum and I spend so much money on magazines — every month, I read British, US, German and French Vogue. I also often go to Dover Street Market or flip through magazines such as Pop and i-D to look at all the beautiful clothes. Some of the editorials really strike something within me, and it makes me feel that is exactly what I want to do one day — create clothes that move people.
