The City law firm Wedlake Bell, which was founded in 1780, has had a memorable year. Its turnover grew 15 per cent to £50.5 million and profit rose 12 per cent, although the exact figure was not disclosed. The firm attributed its financial success to a strong performance across its key areas of practice — private client, real estate and business services, including pensions and employment.

Wedlake Bell has advised on and put in place a structure to help set up the charity Svitlo Education, which focuses on aiding those affected by the Ukraine conflict. The charity offers online education, English language classes, school scholarships and educational resources to children who remain in Ukraine and those who have been displaced to other nations.

Wedlake Bell represented The Artists’ Collecting Society and the Design and Artists Copyright Society in their claim against Ivor Braka Limited, which has successfully settled.

Seven partners have recently joined from other law firms, including a team advising in arts and luxury law from Charles Russell Speechlys and an employment heavyweight from Memery Crystal. In addition, the firm promoted six of its lawyers to the partnership this spring.
