Jack McGrath, the Ireland prop, admitted yesterday he was “embarrassed” by the scale of Leinster’s defeat 30-6 defeat by Ulster.

Leinster’s Guinness PRO12 title credibility took a bit of a bashing at Ravenhill on Saturday and McGrath conceded that the result was unacceptable.

“It’s your job and you’ve a lot of pride playing for Leinster,” the 26-year-old said.

“It’s not just you you’re representing but friends, family and fans, so to go up to Belfast and get a result like that just isn’t good enough for the quality of team that we have.

“It is embarrassing. We let ourselves down. I didn’t sleep on Saturday night. I was embarrassed going to training yesterday.

“It is not a great place to be and not a great thing to have happened to us this late in the season but it could be a blessing in disguise.”

However, as well as bruised pride, there are injuries to nurse. Josh van der Flier, who has a foot problem, and Luke Fitzgerald, who is struggling with a knee injury, are now in danger of missing the remainder of Leinster’s season. They look certain to be absent from the side that faces Treviso this Saturday.
