Wardrobe mistress

I'm looking for a dress that I can wear right now, but which will also work as a good update for my spring wardrobe. What do you suggest?

One of the most ubiquitous items out there for this spring is the printed shift dress. As seen on various catwalks - not least by Peter Pilotto (£490) - it can be worn now with thick tights, and later on in the year will look great with a pair of tanned legs. Alongside Pilotto's creations, it's worth checking out Diane Von Furstenberg (£355; matchesfashion.com ) or Paul Smith (£195). And on the high street, Oasis gets our vote with this brilliant number (pictured, £55).

I am planning a party for my 18th birthday and I'm looking for a dress. I'm 5ft 11in, size 16, and willing to spend up to £170 on an outfit. I would like a dress that flatters, while also being modern. Can you think of something suitable?

Acne is a brilliant label for fuss-free, modern styles, and its new Magical dress is no exception (pictured, £160). Red stands out without being too overwhelming, and this simple, relaxed style is flattering and easy. Wear it with a sequined jacket or black blazer (Zara does great ones, from £40) for a glammed-up, grown-up look. Or, for a less glitzy and slightly edgier vibe, try Whistles.

I want to buy my sister a watch for her birthday. I'm looking for something unfussy and young for less than £200. What do you suggest?

Michael Kors has a great range of watches that are classic yet chunky enough to avoid being too demure. Personally, I love the gold version (£170). For a quirkier twist, head to Marc by Marc Jacobs. If it's brilliant colour you're after, try ToyWatch, whose signature style comes in all the shades of the rainbow (from £135).

I'm looking for a pair of pretty pumps to wear this spring - preferably with some kind of embellishment. Where can I find them?

Pretty Ballerinas specialises in pumps and is a one-stop shop for pretty flats (from £100). Alternatively, try Kurt Geiger, which has a whole range of embellished styles from £70, or Topshop for this pair (pictured, £28).
