Wardrobe Mistress

From catwalk to high street, the first lady of fashion scours the shops so you don't have to. This week: holiday clothes and replacing old jeans

I loved the look of the Michael Kors SS11 collection, especially the tan accessories and platform shoes the models wore with his relaxed T-shirt dresses. I’m going on holiday in April and would love to work something similar. What do you think I should get?

Michael Kors’s relaxed beachy look (maxidress, £500, leather platforms, £355, leather messenger bag, £780) is actually extremely easy to emulate. You can find a long T-shirt dress at Topshop, where they do similar vest-top styles for £16. Wedges are a big thing for spring. I like these by Aldo (1 £90) because they’ll work as well on a summer holiday as they will back home with wide-legged jeans. Or check out these by Kurt Geiger (2 £190). Finish it all off with a tan bag. Kors’s were leather, so look to Cos (3 £129) for something structured and smart, or check out this one by Topshop (4 £95) for a more slouchy look.

I am 19 years old, and attending a family friend’s wedding. I’d love to wear a dress that is conservative, yet still fun and young, as the bride herself is only 25 and all of her friends will be about the same age. I’m short with big boobs, so don’t want anything too “cleavagey”, and I’m a student, so on a budget. What do you suggest?

For dresses that work well with a curvier figure, I think you should go for a demure neckline or a looser style that you can belt at the waist. This orange shirt dress from Topshop (5 £46) is cool, but would still look sleek and smart with a pair of high-heeled pumps. Or check out this dress from Oasis (6 £50).

The floral print with tiered skirt is very Erdem — pretty and young — but still wedding appropriate.

I’ve been thinking of buying some new everyday trousers to replace my boring old jeans, but I have no idea where to start. I have about £80 to spend and am a slim size 8.

Coloured trousers are big for spring, and a very easy update on your traditional trusty denims. Zara has done super-bright pairs (7 £35), or check out Tommy Hilfiger for simple chinos that come in a rainbow of colours (8 £75). If that’s too much colour for you, Topshop has classic chinos in an easier peach (9 £36).
