Wardrobe mistress: hen night dress

I am looking for a white dress for about £200 to wear to my hen party - or is that too naff? It's a chic do of afternoon tea and cocktails. Help!

Avoid any hint of naffness by going for a directional shape, like this dress by Stella McCartney (right, £1,345, and jacket, £1,045). For a budget-friendly version, try Day Birger et Mikkelsen's Origami dress (£220; 020 7432 8088) or this more demure Acne racer-back dress (pictured, £161, from my-wardrobe.com). Dress it up with killer heels (try KG Fashionista for a bit of colour) and a blazer (Zara has a similar one to Stella's baby-pink jacket) for a look that will work both at your chic afternoon tea and when the heels come off a little later.

I am looking for a classic designer handbag. Size and durability are important - I'm starting university soon and want to use it to carry a laptop and books. My budget is £300.

For bags in this price range, designer diffusion ranges are the place to look. And See by Chloé has some brilliant slouchy bags in juicy colours. For something versatile, go for a darker shade, such as plum (£340). My favourite, though, is this bag by APC Madras (pictured, £91, from Urban Outfitters). Nodding to the nautical trend, with a Pierre Hardyesque clasp, it is just plain enough. And, not being a mainstream bag brand, you're unlikely to bump into anyone else carrying it.

I am attending a summer wedding in an off-white dress. The trouble is, I can't decide what to wear with it. I am size 10-12, have dark colouring and am in my forties.

It is fine to wear white to a wedding, but you need to make sure your accessories are decidedly unbridal to avoid causing offence. Go for a really bright cover-up. This sleeveless jacket from H&M (pictured, £50) is bang on trend and will brighten up your outfit in one fell swoop. For a more vintage look, try sequins. Topshop's bolero is unbelievably pretty (pictured, £125).

RICH PICKINGS

Admirers of Nicole Richie's look can get in on her game with a bit of bling from her debut jewellery range, House of 1960. Named after her daughter, it is affordable (£23 to £183) and predictably boho. Signature pieces include a gold headband and stacked bangles, but for Richie's LA look, you'll need to pile them all on. Stone necklace, £119, and Aztec bracelet, £75, by House of Harlow 1960, from my-wardrobe.com
