This week’s must-see single: Beck’s E-PrO

The golden boy is back with yet another great single. It’s funny how ready many people were to write him off a couple of years ago, after the gorgeous but low-key melancholy of his break-up album, Sea Changes. It was as if an artist wasn’t allowed to make different- sounding records.

This clangy, souped-up lead track from his new album, due next month, is accompanied by a typically oddball video which begins with an interred Beck freeing himself and his dog from the ground, giving a couple of aggressive skeletons a kicking, and setting forth on a bicycle that thinks it’s a spider. It ends with Beck’s bodyless head being fired from a cannon by an angling frog. It all makes perfect sense.
