Leicester are considering a move for the Copenhagen left back Victor Kristiansen in a bid to boost Brendan Rodgers’ injury-hit squad.

The Times understands the 20-year-old is one of a number of players under consideration and the club have held preliminary talks over a potential move that could be worth up to £7 million.

After being unable to strengthen in the summer, aside from the £15 million acquisition of Wout Faes, Rodgers has been told there will be some funds available to spend this month.

Rodgers has nine first-team players injured and with Ricardo Pereira, Ryan Bertrand and James Justin all out with long-term problems the club want to sign a full back this month.

Kristiansen is highly rated and has impressed at the Danish club since making his debut in November 2020. He appeared in all six of Copenhagen’s Champions League fixtures this term, five from the start, though the club failed to win any of them and suffered a heavy 5-0 defeat by Manchester City in October.

Luke Thomas has started Leicester’s last five games in all competitions with Rodgers admitting they would have liked to have given the 21-year-old a break but that has not been possible.

“I think the reality for us is that the squad has been very very small, a lot of the players are having to play when maybe we would have wanted to take them out,” Rodgers said. “Look at Luke Thomas for example. We would love to give him a breather but he’s our only left back so that’s where we’re at.”

It is understood Leicester, who are 13th in the table having lost their last three Premier League fixtures, are looking at bringing in up to three signings this month with a right winger and a centre back also on the shopping list.
