The simultaneous emergence of Circulus and the Eighteenth Day of May suggests that acid-folk revives apace. Meanwhile, these four chronologically sequenced CDs chart the route from folk traditionalists of the 1950s and 1960s, such as Ron Copper, Anne Briggs and Dave and Toni Arthur, to genre-bending folk-rockers the Incredible String Band, Trees, Dando Shaft and Comus in the early 1970s. Just as Lenny Kaye's 1960s garage-rock compilation, Nuggets, primed the American punk bands of the mid-1970s, so Anthems in Eden is required listening for those contemplating adding pick-ups to a dulcimer.
