US soldiers killed in Afghan suicide blast

Two American soldiers were killed in a suicide car bombing in Kabul today, the US military has confirmed.

The bomber created a massive blast near the American embassy in the Afghan capital, exploding a military vehicle and creating casualties among civilians as well as foreigners, police reported.

Sixteen people, including seven foreigners, were killed in the explosion, according to the Reuters news agency.

The explosion, said to have targeted a US convoy, was in one of the Afghan capital’s busiest streets just 100 metres from the heavily protected embassy.

American soldiers and heavily armed US security forces cordoned off the scene, and were searching for evidence of what caused the blast.

Al-Jazeera television reported that three American soldiers were killed in the Kabul blast.
