AIRFARES experts and transatlantic travel agents say that the cheapest fares to the United States are from £250 at the moment, while well-located three or four-star hotels are about £100 a night in East Coast cities.
This works out at £400pp for two people on a three-night break — £121 more than the best price available in The Times/AirMiles USA and Canada promotion (see page 29).
The Times/AirMiles promotion has three-night weekend breaks at three-star — and better — hotels with British Airways flights from £279, plus 50 AirMiles per person, for Boston, Philadelphia, Washington DC, Atlanta and Baltimore until the end of April and in November. All airport taxes and charges are included.
Meanwhile three nights in New York, Miami, Orlando, Tampa, Houston, Dallas, Toronto and Montreal cost from £329, plus 50 AirMiles.
Alex McWhirter, consumer editor and airfare specialist at Business Traveller magazine, said: “The cheapest seat sales have flights for around £250 right now, so those all-in prices look good. Decent hotel rooms in New York are around £100 these days — it’s becoming a very expensive place to stay.”

A spokeswoman for a leading transatlantic travel agency said that the prices were fantastic and could not be beaten. The best they could offer to Boston was £254 return — via Amsterdam.
Another agency had lead-in prices for three nights at a three-star hotel in Boston from £399. A major online travel provider, which also asked not to be named, had best flight-only deals to Dallas available for £289.
