Montevideo Uruguayans can now buy cannabis at pharmacies after a three-year struggle to get the drug legalised. Any citizen aged 18 or over can register to buy up to 40 grams of cannabis a month. Chemists identify the estimated 5,000 users by their fingerprints and dispense the drug in five-gram pouches, each costing about $6.50. The approved drugs contain only a small amount of the ingredient that creates a high and some fear that it is too small to convert users from illegally bought cannabis.
