Tube geography

Apropos the Circle Line changes it is high time Beck’s topological Tube map was binned in favour of a geographical one

Sir, Apropos the Circle Line changes (letters, Nov 25, 28 and 30) it is high time that Beck’s topological Tube map was binned in favour of a geographical one. The iconic diagram treats the visitor as a mole and gives no idea of where you are in relation to the ground above. As an example, Beck’s map suggests that getting from Bank to Cannon Street involves three Tube stations, a lengthy walk underground and a change of Tube lines, whereas above ground the distance is a hundred yards or so.
