Tsunami and earthquake: Japan devastated

The Times’s Asia Editor Richard Lloyd Parry, travelled to Sendai to see for himself the devastation caused by the strongest earthquake in Japanese living memory. The tsunami that engulfed the area destroyed homes, farmland and businesses and killed thousands of people. Despite this horrific event, people who remain in the area are surprisingly upbeat, determined to rebuild their lives amidst chaotic surroundings.
