Truth is out there

Sir, Despite Caitlin Moran’s comments about UFOs (times2, July 9), sightings haven’t dried up and neither has interest in the subject. Recent incidents reported to the MoD (where my duties used to include investigating UFO sightings) include the case of an F15 pilot who saw a UFO on January 12 and a civil pilot and some of his passengers who saw two mile-long UFOs over the Channel Islands on April 23. Both incidents were apparently correlated by radar.

Under the Freedom of Information Act the MoD receives more requests relating to UFOs than any other subject, including the war in Iraq. Later this summer the MoD is to release a large batch of the Defence Intelligence staff’s UFO files. The department should be careful; when the French Government released its UFO files online this year, interest was so great that the dedicated website crashed.
