Bach cello suites
Virgin Classics
No one attempts Bach’s six unaccompanied cello suites on a whim, and Truls Mørk’s recording gives us the fruits of considerable thought and experience. Plus a breathtakingly beautiful cello (Domenico Montagnana, 1723). On sound alone, this CD is a dream. Mørk’s interpretation wins high marks, too, colouring his single lines with rainbow hues, sensitively moulding phrasing, dynamics and dramatic pauses. He won a Grammy for his recording of the Britten suites; could lighting strike twice?
