Treat the obese

The use of anti-obesity drugs

Sir, Contrary to your report (Feb 1 ), the increase in the use of anti-obesity drugs is to be celebrated. Obesity is a serious clinical disorder. As a practising GP, I see patients benefiting from these medications regularly. They do not obviate the need for lifestyle changes, and indeed there are strict controls on their use, but it is wrong to suggest that their increasing use is inappropriate. We have effective drugs which have been approved by NICE. Why not use them for patients who are eligible?
