Travel tips

Family fun in Borneo Here’s a stunning new family offering, opening in Borneo in July. Set on the island of Pulau Gaya, the Gaya Island Resort is surrounded by sandy beaches and looks out to Mount Kinabalu. Families can go jungle trekking, snorkeling or visit the mainland at Sabah. There’s a great kids area and a spa for adults. It costs £1,179pp for seven nights’ B&B including flights, with Trailfinders (020-7368 1200, trailfinders.com).

Tate travel Get out-of-hours access to museums and galleries and invitations to view private collections with their owners through the Tate’s new travel arm, Tate Travels (020-7386 4630, tatetravels.co.uk). The first tour is a three-night weekend in St Ives on May 18, including a preview of the Tate St Ives Summer Exhibition and a performance at the spectacular open-air Minack Theatre. It costs £895 for three nights and most meals.

Guidebooks for kids This season’s crop of new guidebooks includes a series of Eyewitness Travel Family Guides (traveldk.com), with books on London, Paris, New York and Washington out this month for £12.99 each. But perhaps the most interesting are the Step Outside Guides (stepoutsideguides.com) to London, designed to help children of nine and older to lead a tour. London Treasure Trail and Down by the Thames also highlight good picnic spots, free toilets and buggie accessibility. They cost £5 each.

Exclusive charters to Turkey Fed up with airport hassle? From April 28 Exclusive Escapes (020-8605 3500, exclusiveescapes.co.uk) is running weekly charters from Stansted’s private jet terminal to Dalaman, Turkey. Park a minute from the terminal and your luggage is collected from your car while you proceed to check in. And it doesn’t cost the earth — seven nights’ B&B at the Dionysos Estate costs from £750pp including flights.
