Transport options

Sir, When our return flight from Prague was delayed last weekend, my wife and I missed our reserved seats on the last direct train from King’s Cross to York. The tickets were not transferable to the next train.

As the next available train journey was 4hr 35min at £131 each, not including the time and cost of crossing London, I hired a car at Heathrow airport for £140 including fuel. The journey took 3hr 30min, and I dropped the car off at York railway station the following morning (letters, August 23, etc).

Yours, etc,

GARETH CHILD,

55 Greencliffe Drive,

York YO30 6NA.

August 23.

Sir, You report (August 19) a spokesman for Thameslink as saying: “I have always found it strange that people would choose to take one mode of transport (bicycles) and put it on another (trains).”

How does he think that cyclists, and motorists, get across the English Channel?

Yours faithfully,

JILL VERRAN,
