The last two Transformer games were spin-offs from films; this is a video game in its own right.
The protagonists remain the same: sentient robots that can metamorphose into vehicles such as warplanes or cars.
The action has been relocated from Earth to the Transformers’ home planet of Cybertron, and the plot, such as it is, fills in the back story of the characters Optimus Prime and Megatron.

In this third-person shoot-’em-up you can choose whether to be one of the good guys (Autobots) or the baddies (Decepticons). The action is much the same either way: you roam a sci-fi landscape, hunting power-ups and potent weaponry, while shooting enemy Transformers and taking down the occasional big-boss ’bot.
Play with others, either online or with up to three friends in the same room, and some exciting multiplayer options are revealed, including one that allows you to create your own Transformers character. The single-player campaign is pedestrian in comparison.
