Transfer deadline day deals

The transfer window closes at midnight tonight. Check here throughout the day for news of any deals as they are reported.

Arsenal have sold Quincy Owusu-Abeyie to Spartak Moscow for an undisclosed fee. Owusu-Abeyie, the 19-year-old forward, has moved to Russia after the Gunners recruited Theo Walcott and Emmanuel Adebayor to their forward line.

David Bentley, another talented Arsenal youngster, has completed a permanent deal with Blackburn Rovers. Bentley had been on loan at Ewood Park since the summer, after spending last season with Norwich, and has now moved away from the Gunners for good.

He’ll be joined at Rovers by Florent Sinama Pongolle, the Liverpool forward, who has signed on a loan basis until the end of the season. The 21-year-old French forward has dropped further down the Anfield pecking order after Robbie Fowler rejoined the Reds earlier this week.

As reported in The Times’s “window watch”, Tottenham Hotspur have completed the signing of Hossam Ghaly, from Feyenoord, for an undisclosed fee. The 24-year-old Egyptian midfield player has signed a four-and-a-half year deal at White Hart Lane. Ghaly’s arrival has allowed Michael Brown to complete his move to Fulham. Brown was signed from Sheffield United two seasons ago but has made only two starts in the Premiership this year and joins the Cottagers just hours before Spurs are due to visit West London for a Premiership match. Brown will not make his debut this evening, however.

Harry Redknapp, traditionally a busy man on deadline day, makes his first move, bringing Andres d’Alessandro, the Argentina midfield player, to Portsmouth on loan until the end of the season. D’Alessandro, a gold medalist at the 2004 Olympics, joined Wolfsburg in Germany for £6.15 million in 2003. The 24-year-old is described by his new manager as a “really influential playmaker” and a “massive signing”. D’Alessandro has fallen out of favour at Wolfsburg after Klaus Augenthaler, the coach, dropped him for displaying a bad attitude to training.

Rory Delap will have another brief glimpse of life in the Premiership as he moves from Southampton to Sunderland. Delap was a regular when the Saints were in the top flight and now joins the Black Cats’ increasingly unlikely attempt to remain among the elite. He has signed for an undisclosed fee.

Charlton have allowed Jonatan Johansson to join Norwich on loan until the end of the season. The Finland forward has made just one Premiership start this season.

Zesh Rehman, the defender, has left Fulham to join Norwich City on loan for the rest of the season.

Manchester City confirm that they have signed Georgios Samaras, the Greek under-21 international forward, from Heerenveen for £6 million. Samaras went on strike last week after losing a court case challenging the Dutch side’s refusal to allow him to leave. However, after City increased their initial offer, Samaras completed a move to England and signed a three-and-a-half-year contract yesterday. City have also secured the services of Matthew Mills, the Southampton central defender, on a three-and-a-half-year deal. The 19-year-old is an England Under-21s international.

Zvonimir Vukic claims he has left Portsmouth for Partizan Belgrade on a six-month loan deal. The Serbia-Montenegro international has struggled to make an impact at Fratton Park since joining the Premiership strugglers from Shakhtar Donetsk at the start of the season and he now seems set for a return to his former club, although Portsmouth have yet to confirm the deal.
