Tottenham Hotspur are preparing to make a third bid for Saido Berahino, the West Bromwich Albion forward, today but are likely to be frustrated in their attempt to sign Victor Wanyama, the Southampton midfielder. Tottenham’s efforts to bring in Wanyama, who delayed reporting for international duty with Kenya yesterday, have been complicated by their lukewarm relationship with Southampton.

Southampton believe that Tottenham tried to sign Morgan Schneiderlin on the cheap and were powerless to stop Mauricio Pochettino moving to White Hart Lane as head coach, followed by Paul Mitchell as head of recruitment.

Tottenham have been offered Axel Witsel, the Zenit St Petersburg midfielder, as an alternative to Wanyama. Ismail Azzaoui has left Tottenham for Wolfsburg and is expected to be followed by Aaron Lennon, also a winger, who is in the last year of his contract and is wanted by Everton.

West Ham United have re-signed Alexandre Song, the midfielder, on loan from Barcelona, but he is out with an ankle injury until November.

West Bromwich Albion’s former record signing Brown Ideye joined Olympiacos last night for a fee of about £4million. The Nigeria forward, who signed for Albion last summer from Dynamo Kiev, scored four times in 24 Barclays Premier League appearances. The £10 million fee was then a club record, which means West Brom have taken a hit on letting him go.

Chelsea’s move for defender Kostas Manolas has been rejected by Roma, while the London club have turned down an £8.8 million offer from Napoli for Kurt Zouma, the centre half.

West Ham have had a £7 million offer for forward Michail Antonio accepted by Nottingham Forest but Matt Jarvis, the winger, is not moving the other way as part of a proposed deal. West Ham could also sign forwards Nikica Jelavic, from Hull City, and Emmanuel Adebayor, from Tottenham, as well as Victor Moses, the Chelsea winger

West Ham’s interest in Diego Rolán led to Bordeaux handing him a contract extension while their offer for another forward, Breel Embolo, has been rejected by Basle. Modibo Maïga has moved to Al Nassr, the Saudi Arabian club, after three years at Upton Park. The forward joined West Ham for £4.7 million from Sochaux and had loan spells at Queens Park Rangers and Metz.

Watford are in talks with Victor Ibarbo, the Roma forward, and Suso, the AC Milan winger.

Jonathan de Guzmán’s proposed move to Bournemouth has stalled after the midfielder agreed to leave Napoli and was scheduled to fly to England last night. The Italian club appear to want £750,000 for a loan fee and nearly £4 million for a permanent deal for a player who had two seasons with Swansea City in the Premier League.

Adnan Januzaj, the Manchester United winger, has joined Borussia Dortmund on loan and Anders Lindegaard, the goalkeeper, has left Old Trafford for West Bromwich on a free transfer. Javier Hernández, the forward, is joining Bayer Leverkusen.

Fabio Borini has signed a four-year deal at Sunderland after joining from Liverpool for £7.75 million, rising to £9.75 million. Liverpool have signed Taiwo Awoniyi from Imperial Academy in Nigeria for £400,000. The forward, 18, has joined Frankfurt on loan.

Andrea Ranocchia, the Inter Milan central defender, has rejected a move to Southampton.

Dieudonne Mbokani, the Dynamo Kiev forward, is expected to move on loan to Norwich City. The 29-year-old has played for Anderlecht, Standard Liège, Monaco and Wolfsburg.
