Harry Redknapp believes Tottenham Hotspur’s incredible escapdes in the Champions League this season will help the club to attract world-class players this summer.
Spurs, who face Real Madrid on Tuesday in the first leg of their Champions League quarter final, recently posted figures outlining their increased revenue and speaking this afternoon Redknapp suggested that he would like to take advantage of the club’s financial success when the transfer window reopens. “We have to keep improving, I know that, the chairman knows that and if there is money to spend I am sure he will,” he said.
The former Portsmouth manager also reiterated the importance of his side finishing in the top four again this season. “Spurs are now a club that’s name has been spread all over Europe, it can only help,” he added. “We’re a club players want to come and play for but, they want Champions League football too.”
“We are all focused and they know how important it is to make that top four, we’ve worked hard all season and not been out of the top five,” he added.
This season the Premier League is wide open with the top four and bottom four likely to go right down to the final day of the season. “The top four will be even harder next year, Liverpool will be back and pushing so you can see six teams pushing for those four places making it even tighter,” Redknapp said.

The North London side face a trip to the DW stadium tomorrow and Redknapp is well aware of the threats that Roberto Martinez’s side pose. “They are in a relegation battle for sure, but they are dangerous. Wolves, have beaten Chelsea, Manchester United and Liverpool this season, there are no games that are easy, that’s why it’s the best league in the world.”
Tottenham have seen their squad ravaged by injuries in recent weeks, leaving Redknapp with only two recognised central defenders after captain Ledley King and Jonathon Woodgate were ruled out for the season. Redknapp confirmed that Michael Dawson will be partnered in central defence with Sebastien Bassong, while both William Gallas and Younes Kaboul face a race to be fit in time for the trip to Madrid.
Redknapp also confirmed that Gareth Bale would not be fit to face Wigan, but was hopeful that he could be ready to return on Tuesday. “Gareth is not fit tomorrow. His hamstring is still a little bit tight. We’ll have to see for Tuesday. You never know with those injuries, you can’t tell with hamstrings. Until he pushes it we wouldn’t be sure.”
