A shot of an engineer welding cylindrical screens made from recycled materials at Croft Filters in Warrington has won amateur snapper Rob Watkins joint top prize in the UK manufacturing photographer of the year awards run by the EEF trade body and supported by The Times.

The other joint winners who received prizes of Canon camera equipment at a ceremony yesterday at the House of Commons were professional photographer Mike Brookes Roper who had captured a marine energy turbine off Orkney and, in the young photographer section, Henry Gill who took images of electronics motherboards for the Royal Navy at Texcel Technology in London.
