The chain has three sites, at Watford, Chigwell in Essex and Addlestone in Surrey, with a fourth under option in the Midlands. Its backers believe there is scope for up to 50 centres in the UK. Each site costs about £4m to buy and develop.
Top Golf is run by Stephen Lewis, who previously ran Pinnacle Leisure. Roger Devlin, corporate development director at Hilton Group, is chairman.
In Top Golf centres the balls contain a microchip that relays information and a score back to the player. Baydrive owns a licence for the technology, developed by World Golf Systems (WGS) for Britain and Ireland. WGS has granted similar licences to companies in America and Thailand.
Last week The Sunday Times revealed that Henderson was offloading Leisure Link, its gaming-machine company.
