Tokyo 2020 Olympics schedule: the key events, dates, and UK timings

The Times

Day 17, Sunday August 8

Through the night There’s no time for sleep on the final day of the Games, especially with such a jam-packed schedule in the velodrome. There are finals in men’s keirin and women’s sprint, but the pick of the action is with Laura Kenny, the double Olympic champion, in the women’s omnium. The first of four races — the scratch — begins at 2am, followed by the tempo (2.45am), elimination (3.26am) and finally the points race (4.25am). At 3.30am it’s the women’s basketball gold medal match. It would be a surprise if the US were not involved given they have won gold at the past six Olympic Games.

With your breakfast Out of the velodrome and into the boxing ring we go for four finals as the Games wind to a close. Britain’s Lauren Price will contest gold in the women’s middlweight final.

With your lunch The closing ceremony takes place from midday until 2:30pm. Organisers have announced that the theme will be “worlds we share” and that they hope the ceremony will “open the door to a brighter future”.

Best of British Kenny will have gold in her sights again in the omnium, having won the past two gold medals in the event.
