The firm is known for securing an award for Elliott Associates against the Republic of Korea, under the US-Korea Free Trade Agreement, where Korea was found to have breached the minimum standard of treatment under international law. Korea was ordered to pay Elliott more than $100 million for damages, interest and legal fees.

Three Crowns also acted as counsel in a dispute against the National Iranian Oil Company, in two parallel arbitrations arising from a gas sales and purchase agreement. Having achieved a significant interim victory with a partial award, the firm obtained a multibillion-dollar final award for its client. The second arbitration is ongoing.

Representing ConocoPhillips in an ongoing International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID) arbitration against Venezuela. Conoco’s claim arose from Venezuela’s expropriation of ConocoPhillips’s assets in the Orinoco oil belt. In 2019 it secured approximately $8.5 billion in an award in ConocoPhillips’s favour — one of the largest known ICSID awards in history. It is defending the award in annulment proceedings.
