This year Thorntons, one of Scotland’s largest full-service law firms, secured a seven-figure settlement for a young client who endured a life-changing workplace injury. When the employer’s insurers refused to engage before litigation, Court of Session proceedings were initiated. The team selected key expert witnesses and ensured the client received maximum compensation, including for his injuries, prosthetic needs and rehabilitation.

The family law team succeeded in its application for a postnuptial agreement to be set aside. The agreement, which was signed when the client was vulnerable, stipulated that they would receive only 6 per cent of the matrimonial property.

Thorntons’ business law team is acting for SSEN in relation to a project to create a transmission line from Inveraray to Crossaig. The firm is negotiating all land options, servitudes, crossing agreements and licences for the 50-mile route, which will enable renewable energy projects to connect to the electricity network.
