The Halifax house prices index is due to be released at 8.30am. Last month’s figures revealed that house prices in June were 1 per cent lower than the previous month and 2.6 per cent higher than in June last year.

G4S is set to report another rise in profits next week as the global security group continues a strong run that has catapulted it back into the FTSE 100. A consensus of City analysts forecast is that the company will report pre-tax profits for the first half of the year up from £203 million to £230 million.
