The Water Horse: Legend of the Deep the Sunday Times review

The Loch Ness myth meets ET in this tale of a boy (Alex Etel) who finds a strange egg in a rock pool near the loch. Before long, a baby Nessie hatches and, this being a wartime story, the boy must protect his new friend from the soldiers billeted in the area - quite a challenge when the beastie grows big enough to be mistaken for a German submarine. Jay Russell's film pushes its luck when piling on the Scottish quaintness - a few too many "jings!" - but it finds an appealing tone, and the special effects are excellent.
