The View: Bread and Circuses

This group’s Scottishness is initially endearing, but sadly wears thin over 13 tracks

Bread and Circuses is as populist as its name suggests, after the commercial anti-climax of its predecessor, Which Bitch?, in 2009. The View’s Scottishness — knees-up tempos, tales of Dundee nights and Kyle Falconer’s slanted vowels — is at first endearing, but wears thin over 13 tracks. All are flecked with the guitar hooks and radio-friendly choruses that propelled their debut to platinum sales. The album won’t disturb anyone’s comfort zone.
