★★☆☆☆
The Son of Joseph is a modern Biblical allegory about a lost teenage son searching for his biological father amid the Paris bourgeoisie. I know, it’s not a good premise, but at least the actors try hard in Eugène Green’s comedy-drama, filmed with arty formalism. Victor Ezenfis plays the teenager, Mathieu Amalric his pompous publisher father, Fabrizio Rongione is his uncle Joseph and Natacha Régnier is his single mother, Marie. A donkey also features. You can probably guess where this is going.
