Watching the Sadies, an experience duplicated by this expansive double CD recorded live over two nights in their home town, Toronto, offers a sharp learning curve. Initially, you'll think you're going to be subjected to an evening of tight, efficient but ultimately pointless ironic 1960s surf-twang. Then the band layer this basic template with gorgeous country-rock harmonies, psychedelic wig-outs and cinematic spaghetti western-style instrumentals from the brilliantly named brothers Dallas and Travis Good. The only drawback here is the crowd noise: the audience at Lee's Palace seem to be having such a good time, you can't help but feel left out.
