Sir, Joann Murray (letter, Mar 9) need not feel offended by the portrayal of women in literature. If it is true that, for example, Elizabeth Bennet and Dorothea Brooke are “whole only when completed by man”, it is obvious that Mr Darcy and Will Ladislaw are “whole only when completed by woman”.
