New-build properties have risen in price by only 1.3% on average across the UK over the past year, with some areas recording falls of up to 12%, says property marketing website Smartnewhomes.com. London is the most expensive area for a brand-new house or flat, averaging £397,583, which is £180,000 more than an equivalent property elsewhere in the country.
