Movies, music and games...it must be a camera

If you thought mobile phones had gone off-message, wait until you see the next generation of digital cameras. You want music, movies, games? You got ‘em. These cameras will be launched in Britain in the next four months. Prices are yet to be announced.

Kodak V570 dual-lens camera

The good? It has two lenses, one producing wide-screen images.

The bad? Sure to appeal to estate agents, but may be a bit gimmicky for the rest of us.

Overall: The V570 takes good pictures, but using two separate lenses, each with its own 5-megapixel CCD (the bit that captures the images) seems a difficult route to solving the problem of creating a lens that can cope with both wide-angle and close-up shots. Still, if wide screen is your thing, you’ll love it.

Fujifilm V10

The good? Large 3in (7.6cm) screen, 5-megapixel resolution. Can also be used to play games.

The bad? Do you need a camera that plays games?

Overall: The screen dominates the back of the camera, which is great for both picture and games, but you’re unlikely to get the shot of a lifetime while playing Space Invaders.

4/5

Samsung i6

The good? Slim and elegant, with 6-megapixel resolution. Also plays movies and music.

The bad? And you thought the Kodak’s two lenses were a gimmick...

Overall:As with the Fujifilm camera, you can’t help but wonder how many things its makers expect you to do at the same time. Not recommended for use in countries with paranoid regimes or brutal police forces.
