MARVIN GAYE: Here, My Dear - Expanded Edition (Motown/Universal) When Marvin Gaye divorced in 1976, the settlement gave his ex-wife the royalties from his next album, so Gaye headed into the studio to knock out a record that would make the average "contractual-obligation album" sound like a masterpiece. Yet professional pride - or perhaps a reconnection with the emotions he had felt in the early days of the marriage - kicked in, and he fashioned Here, My Dear. Yes, it's about a break-up, and contains pointed barbs such as You Can Leave but It's Going to Cost You, but it also features some of Gaye's most heartbreakingly beautiful vocals, such as When Did You Stop Loving Me, When Did I Stop Loving You. A second CD of remixes (by Prince Paul and ?uestlove, among others) freshens things up; the remastered original remains fascinating. ME
