Reinvented children’s books, with satirical titles such The Ladybird Book of the Hipster and the Enid Blyton spoof Five on Brexit Island, have become so popular that Prince Charles has written his own sobering Ladybird guide to climate change. How might sceptics respond?

Here is Janet. Here is Charles. Janet is a climate sceptic. Charles is very worried about the greenhouse effect.

“Hurry up, Janet,” says Charles. “We have only 100 months to save the planet.”

“Hang on,” says Janet. “Wasn’t that what you said back in March 2009?”

“Yes,” says Charles. “One might have mentioned that.”

“That means there are only six months left,” laughs Janet. “Are you sure you weren’t exaggerating? Isn’t it true that the science is still disputed and that some researchers insist there’s been no rise in global temperatures since 1998?”

Charles grimaces, playing with his cufflinks. “It’s all very complicated,” he says. “Tell you what, let’s find out what Julian and George and the rest of the gang have been doing on Brexit Island.”
