The Greenhornes: Sewed Soles

Bearing the imprimatur of Jack White and Brendan Benson, this British intro to the Cincinnati garage-rock trio cherry-picks their three albums to date, alongside several new songs. Two of the band also play in White and Benson's the Raconteurs. All very cosy, but possibly too consensual to allow any challenging influences on proceedings. Yet a satisfying whiff of (borrowed) authenticity hovers over the band's burnt offerings to the Kinks, the Yardbirds and the Stones; and, if they lack the manic edge of the likes of our own Nic Armstrong, the Greenhornes nonetheless tear through the 19 tracks with infectious fury.
